How to Choose Motorcycle Leather Jackets

Todays Date: December 10, 2018

You could be a bike enthusiast or a beginner or just using your bike as a way to commute – whatever the case safety is very important. By safety, I mean the proper riding gear (a license goes without saying.) your riding gear includes, beginning from the top – a good helmet, a well fitted riding jacket and as an option – covered shoes as the Vessi waterproof shoes that are perfect for any situation.

Today, I’m going to help you with some very basic tips on how to purchase the perfect riding jacket. To me, a jacket is pretty much a reflection of the rider’s personality. Hence, I always suggest a leather jacket. Its safe, its trendy, it’s an excellent investment and suits almost every kind of rider. When you buy yourself a leather motorcycle jacket you are basically purchasing quality, protection, durability and comfort.

What to look for in your leather motorcycle jacket?

1. The perfect fit:

Your motorcycle jacket should basically act as your second skin. This ensures maximum protection. In order to ensure the best fit, take a cloth tape and measure it around the broadest portion of your chest. If you’re chest is about 42, I suggest, you opt for a 48 sized jacket. Always remember, that you will not be wearing your motorcycle standing up. A second skin does not mean that the jacket should choke the breath out of you.

Another important factor to remember while purchasing your leather jacket is that every bike differs and in that respect, the riding positions also differ. So ensure that your leather jacket has sleeves, which are slightly longer, thus adding a little more room in the shoulders. Also, a mid hip length jacket is a good idea. In a seated position, the jacket will ride up and you really do not want to bare your back to the elements.

Make sure to check that the leather jacket you choose has adjustable closures around the neck, wrists and waist. This ensures two things – protection from the extremities and curbing the flap-flap of your jacket in the wind.

2. Padding:

In the riding world, padding equates protection and protection equates top priority. A majority of the quality leather motorcycle jackets make use of leather which is between 1.5 MM and 2.0 MM in thickness. Opt for a leather motorcycle jacket which has padding around the shoulders, elbows and backs. Padding could be something as simple as a little extra material sown around the areas, which are most likely to bruise during a fall.

3. Pockets:

There is nothing more fabulous than a well pocketed leather jacket. The more the pockets, the better it is for you. First, ensure that there is an inner pocket. That is where you can store all your important documentation, wallet and your license. Outer pockets are very helpful too but are of practically no use if they cannot be zipped up or do not have cover up flaps. It is also nice if the central zipper of your jacket has a strip of material covering it. This prevents any wind from entering and keeps you nice and warm.

I have been smitten by fashion right since childhood. This field has always fascinated me. When I got an opportunity to work on the leather fashion industry, motorcycle jackets, cheap leather jackets and leather pants, I considered it and since then there’s no looking back.
